Flag, Rag, and National Days

Singapore Exchange : Weeks 2 and 3 (6-Aug-2007 to 19-Aug-2007)

Flag Day (August 7). The annual, university-wide event for collecting donations in support of charities. This year the entire student body carrying tin cans raised over SGD 500,000 (= CDN 350,000) in just one day alone. Students from Sheares Hall, wearing hot pink as seen in the pictures, raised about SGD 90,000.

Rag Day (August 11). After collecting so much donations from the people, the various faculties and halls have put up a spectacular show to thank the generous donations. This is also a competition amongst each other to see who puts on the best show (halls and faculties compete in separate categories). For the halls, preparation started as early as September of the last school year. This year, our hall (Sheares hall) won the highest award (i.e. Chancellor's Shield). The moment of victory is unforgettable. To see pictures of this amazing event, check out the Sheares Hall photo gallery here.

Cheer!

Victory!

National Day (August 9). Wave your flags...or let the wind wave it for you by hanging them. Single homes or government housing, the red and white flags are everywhere.
